Karen Kwan SSNM President

Karen Kwan is pleased to be serving as President on the SSNM board. In addition, she has been the Saskatchewan Rep on the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM) board for the past 4 years and serves as a member of several committees with  CSNM.

Karen decided to enroll in the Food and Nutrition Management Program at Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology (SIAST) in 2006 after sparking interest from a nutrition class. While pursuing her diploma, Karen began a career in food services and worked as a Food Services Worker at a long term care facility within Saskatoon Health Region (SHR).

After graduating in 2008, Karen was offered employment as a Food Services Supervisor at two acute care sites. In 2010, Karen was given an opportunity to work in SHR Payroll Department as a Payroll and Benefits Officer, responsible for Leave of Absence and Worker’s Compensation Board. Always having a strong passion for food, Karen decided to venture back into food services in 2012 and is currently the Assistant Manager of Food and Nutrition Services at Parkridge Centre, a 237-bed long term care facility in Saskatoon. Karen loves the work she does, finding it challenging, yet rewarding.

Throughout the years, Karen has been given many opportunities to take different courses and programs offered through work, including the Saskatchewan Leadership Program in 2014. Karen is extremely thankful to the mentors who continue to motivate and strengthen her skills as a leader. In her spare time, she loves to travel and experience the culture and culinary flavours the world has to offer.

Stacey Ginter-SSNM Past President

Hello SSNM members. I have been a part of the SSNM board for 5 years serving as your conference chair for the last 4 years and President last year.

I have worked in the Saskatoon Health Region now for 28 years.Wow that is hard to believe, definitely hasn’t seemed like that long! Although I have worked at several different facilities in Saskatoon I currently work in Food and Nutrition at Saskatoon City Hospital. I worked for over 20 years as a food  service worker and then went back to school in 2007 to become a Food Service Supervisor.
I got married last year to my husband Greg.We live in the city and have two “fur babies” Ellie and Cali.
We are loving this time of the year as we spend every weekend possible at our cabin at Struthers Lake.
I look forward to serving all of you this year as your SSNM Past President.

Laurette St. Jacques-Communications Chairperson

Hello all! My name is Laurette and I have been on the SSNM Board in a few different roles; including Secretary/Membership Chair, Conference Co-chair and Communications/Newsletter Chair.

I have worked in food services for several years;  a pastry cook at a hotel, food service worker and supervisor in the Saskatoon Health Region, food service worker in the Five Hills Health Region, and currently a food service supervisor in the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region.

I look forward to another year on the SSNM Board working with a great group of people!

Leanne Kolbe, CNM-Social Media Chairperson

Hello!  My name is Leanne Kolbe, CNM.  I am currently serving as SSNM Social Media Chairperson.  I have previously served as Conference Chairperson, Communications Chairperson, President and Past President for SSNM.  Several years ago I obtained by Certified Nutrition Manager designation with CSNM.

I am an Account Relationship Manager with Computrition, Inc., previously having worked for the Saskatoon Health Region.  In addition to Computrition, Inc. I am also a Certified Fitness Trainer and Specialist in Fitness Nutrition with Team Iron elles Personal Training.  I am excited to be taking on the Social Media portfolio for the 2017-2018 term.

Jayci Merkosky-Secretary/Membership

Hello! My name is Jayci Merkosky. I am currently serving as SSNM Secretary & Membership Chair. I have previously served as Co-chair Secretary/Membership for a year and two years as a Student Representative during my tenure at Saskatchewan Polytechnic in the Food and Nutrition Management program. I graduated from Saskpolytech in 2014 and then began my career in Nutrition Management with the Regina Qu’Appelle Heath Region. From there, I moved back home to Saskatoon and continued to work in the field with the Saskatoon Health Region as a Food Services Supervisor at Royal University Hospital.

In October 2015, I accepted a full-time position as an out-of-scope Food Services Supervisor with St. Ann’s Senior Citizens Village and have been enjoying ever since.

Throughout my few years of working in the industry and serving on the SSNM board, I can honestly say I love working in the field of Nutrition Management.  I have met so many great and supportive people who have helped me along the way.

I look forward to another great year.

Sask Polytechnic Liaison- Umair Kharral

Umair Kharral, Sask Polytechnic Liaison

Hello SSNM members! My name is Umair Kharral and I am currently serving as SSNM Saskatchewan Polytechnic Liaison Chair since May 2017. I graduated from Saskatchewan Polytechnic in 2015 and joined Saskatoon Health Region as a food service supervisor. Since May 2017, I have moved to Canora SK and been working as a Support Services Manager at Sunrise Health Region.
In addition to Food and Nutrition Management Diploma, I have Bachelor’s degree in Finance and Marketing. I am also pursuing Six Sigma Certification and Project Management. I love traveling, photography and experience what this beautiful world has to offer. I look forward to serving SSNM this year and many more to come.

Natasha Brandt-Conference Chairperson

Natasha is excited to be serving as this year’s Conference Chairperson.  She served last year as the Membership Coordinator and is very excited to be on the board again this year. 

She has worked at the Saskatoon Health Region for the past 4 years, She started as a Casual Food Service Supervisor, Assistant Cook, and Diet Clerk. She has also worked as an interim Food Service Manager (for 14 months) at Bethany Manor here in Saskatoon.

Presently Natasha is working as the interim Manager of the Retail Area at Saskatoon City Hospital.

She looks forward to working with the rest of the SSNM board members this year.

Shanna Hansen, Treasurer

Hello! This is my second year in the Treasurer role as part of the SSNM Board.  After completing the Food and Nutrition Management course in 2008 I supervised at both Saskatoon City Hospital and Royal University Hospital in a variety of different capacities. I am currently enjoying my role as the Scheduling Supervisor at Saskatoon City Hospital.  Recently I obtained the Certified Nutrition Manager designation with CSNM.

I am looking forward to the future endeavors and variety of learning opportunities that my career may have.
